What Comes Next in the City Council Race
Well, friends, it’s official. The deadline to file for the 2025 City election has passed, and I now have a primary challenger. A Republican has also filed for the general, which means this race is on—and things just got a lot more interesting.

For those of you following along, I’ve been running a very grassroots, low-budget campaign so far—talking with neighbors, delivering signs by hand (often with my daughter and our dog, Tom Sawyer, in tow), and doing much of the work myself. But with a primary ahead, it’s time to really step things up.
A Historic Election for Frederick
This year’s election is unlike any we’ve had before. Thanks to changes in the City Charter, we’re moving from five to seven City Council members. That’s one representative from each of the five districts, plus two at-large members elected city-wide.
You’ll also be voting for Mayor, and in many districts—including District 5—there will be primary races, meaning voters will choose between candidates from the same party before heading into the general election.
This is local democracy in action. It’s about who shows up, who listens, and who helps shape the future of our neighborhoods.

Here’s Everything You Need to Vote
Frederick makes it easy. Every registered voter in the city will receive a ballot by mail for both the primary and the general elections. You can simply fill it out and mail it back.
Not sure which district you’re in? You can check with the interactive map on my website- just click on the menu "District 5."
